From Lynn Clark, Development Director for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Baton Rouge:

What a wonderful experience it was for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Baton Rouge to work with Tile Partners for Humanity this past fall! From the national tile and tile-products manufacturers to the local store owners and professional installers, everyone was so incredibly generous and supportive. It was one of the best partnerships our affiliate has been involved in. The benefits were many – our homeowners received gorgeous, long-lasting tile floors and our volunteers were able to learn a great new skill under the patient tutelage of the skilled installers. We definitely hope to have the good fortune to work with Tile Partners in the near future!

Industry partners donated tile, floor preparation materials, thinset mortar, sanded grout, tile tools, cleaners and sealers, and hand-painted tiles for new Habitat homeowners as part of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Baton Rouge’s Youth Build/Church Coalition build in October and November of 2004. A number of these same partners as well as additional industry partners donated time and expertise to teach homeowners and Habitat volunteers to install tile in five new Habitat homes.

New homeowners Robin Bradley, Katina Coleman, Stacy Dorsey, Sonja Pania, and Val Robinson worked on site with industry partners and other volunteers to install their new floors over two weekends. Local tiling volunteers included students from Episcopal High School, Catholic High School and Louisiana State University’s Habitat chapter as well as members of the United Methodist Churches of Baton Rouge, Broadmoor Baptist, Shiloh Baptist, and Beth Shalom Synagogue. Two other schools, St. Joseph's Academy and University High School, helped to build two of the homes. Other volunteers and neighbors also volunteered time to tile and grout the homes. Local tile artist Connie Bourgeois of TileArts also painted one personalized tile for each homeowner as a gift for their new homes.
